Bear with us…

Our apologies. The ArtMachine is currently under an attack of massive spam-trackback traffic. There may not be much posted today.

And that’s the end of that

There is not an entry left on the ArtMachine that accepts TrackBacks. And my hatred for spammers has risen from a passion with a white heat equivalent to 1000 suns to being a passion hotter than high school love. Die, spammers, die! (That’s German for, “The, spammers, the!”)

Thud and Cog

If you check out the Anvil & Sprocket – At its snazzy new URL, anvilandsprocket.com – you’ll find new reviews! Hurray! First, John reviews pagansploitation flick The Wicker Man, starring Christopher Lee.

Then, I pick up the vampire/martial arts/romantic comedy flick Vampire Effect, and find that it could just possibly be the best vampire movie that either of us has reviewed. Will wonders never cease.

Happy Happy

boo-happy.jpg
This man owes me dinner. The one who’s alive, that is.

It always makes me glad to find one of my old friends working. When I first started in the theatre department at Virginia Tech, my “big brother” was one Happy Mahaney. Happy didn’t have to do too much – I’d already been knocking around the department for a semester and didn’t require much in the way of introduction. He was, however, supposed to buy me dinner.

Happy went from Virginia Tech on to the Barter Theatre in Abingdon. He’s a great guy and a lot of fun.

It turns out Happy has just been featured in a new horror film entitled – I swear I’m not making this up – Boo! The first film from the new horror flick company Graveyard Filmworks. You can scope the preview of the movie on their website.

You can also read Todd Gilchrist’s account of his visit to the set over at IGN Film Force.

Can’t wait to see the movie, Happy. And you still owe me dinner.

Me und Sigmund Jähn

If you haven’t been by The Anvil & Sprocket recently, you might have missed my latest review – the biggest feel-good comedy to come out of Germany (that I’ve seen, anyway), Good Bye, Lenin!

Taken from Fred’s place at Occasional Fish:

Lettera da Bolle- You are very beautiful, but few
people take the time to discover this. Those
who do are well rewarded.

Tucker: A Man and his Bowtie

If you haven’t had the chance to see John Stewart’s appearance on Crossfire, you can check out this video graciously hosted at a Mac.com site.

Stewart finally takes his charge that journalists in the mainstream media are not doing their job to the mainstream media – and Tucker Carlson’s not amused. But the question is – why is Tucker so worked up over a show on Comedy Central that isn’t asking “hardball” questions? It’s on Comedy Central. Tucker’s on CNN.

Why is Tucker so steamed? Maybe it has to do with The Daily Show taking home a number of prizes intended for “real” news shows. It’s sad that John Stewart is right – he has no obligation to report the news, however The Daily Show routinely does a better job of it than the mainstream media. And John Stewart is ashamed of this. He’s ashamed of it for CNN and the other big outlets out there who should be doing this, but who have abdicated their responsibility. Yes, responsibility. Because unlike The Daily Show, Crossfire sells itself as an actual news show.

Funny, though. Tucker doesn’t come off as a newsman, does he?

Another consumer falls prey to the lure of free electronics

You might recall a while back that Thud fell prey to the siren call of a free iPod. I have to admit that I was the one who put him onto the congas and such. I had just completed my referrals, myself, and was letting the family in on the deal. Just to point out – at no time was my referral link spammed to any website or sent to annoy any of my friends (or random strangers, for that matter).

The iPod arrived today. It’s trendy for folks who pull off the Gratis Internet offers to show pictures of the delivery, so I’ve put up a set on the ArtMachine.

You can see pictures and read the story here.
