Tucker: A Man and his Bowtie

If you haven’t had the chance to see John Stewart’s appearance on Crossfire, you can check out this video graciously hosted at a Mac.com site.

Stewart finally takes his charge that journalists in the mainstream media are not doing their job to the mainstream media – and Tucker Carlson’s not amused. But the question is – why is Tucker so worked up over a show on Comedy Central that isn’t asking “hardball” questions? It’s on Comedy Central. Tucker’s on CNN.

Why is Tucker so steamed? Maybe it has to do with The Daily Show taking home a number of prizes intended for “real” news shows. It’s sad that John Stewart is right – he has no obligation to report the news, however The Daily Show routinely does a better job of it than the mainstream media. And John Stewart is ashamed of this. He’s ashamed of it for CNN and the other big outlets out there who should be doing this, but who have abdicated their responsibility. Yes, responsibility. Because unlike The Daily Show, Crossfire sells itself as an actual news show.

Funny, though. Tucker doesn’t come off as a newsman, does he?

Man, Tucker Carlson really is a dick.

I’ve never actually watched the show in its entirety, so I can’t really comment on Stewart’s charge, but I don’t see anything there (or in much of mainstream news as a whole) to dispute it.

I’m glad “The Daily Show” is such a provocative and intelligent show, but we probably should be worried that more and more of the nation is getting its news from it. When Comedy Central is the epitome of journalistic integrity, we’re probably in trouble.
